First, check this out…
WANT MORE INFO? I SURE AS HELL DID!
“Several scientific models show there would be a small but definite increased risk to people who receive blood transfusions if FDA’s MSM (Men who have had sex with males since 1977) policy were changed and that preventable transfusion transmission of HIV could occur as a result.”
IF WE ARE DOING THIS WHY NOT USE THIS DATA:
To exclude African Americans???
I hate ignorance.
“While blacks represent approximately 12% of the U.S. population, they account for almost half (46%) of people living with HIV in the US, as well as nearly half (45%) of new infections each year. HIV infections among blacks overall have been roughly stable since the early 1990s. ”
“While CDC estimates that MSM account for just 4% of the US male population aged 13 and older, MSM account for more than half (53%) of all new HIV infections in the U.S. each year, as well as nearly half (48%) of people living with HIV. ”
Not that big of a difference, and since there are less MSM in the U.S- 4 percent versus 12, then since there are more African Americans here, than the odds are more likely for an African American to infect someone with HIV than MSM.
Ex) Let’s say there’s 100 people in all of the U.S. To make it simple for me!
4 of those people would be MSM
12 would be African American.
HIV infection amongst MSM is 53%
Roughly 2 of our four people…
Then for African America HIV infections are at 45%
Let’s just say that makes it 5 out of the 12.
While the rates are close, you’d have a 5/100 chance of getting infected by an African American, and only 2/100 for MSM.
I rest my case.
P.S My point is that BOTH should be allowed to give blood. Not trying to be racist!!!
